Dr. Andrea Friedman

Optometrist

Dr. Joanna Latek is an optometrist providing modern, medically focused eye care to New York City patients at Eye & Health in the East Village. Her patients benefit from her expertise in comprehensive eye exams, dry eye disease, specialty contact lens fittings, and myopia management.

Dr. Latek earned her B.A. in Biology with a minor in Physiology and Neurobiology from the University of Connecticut before obtaining her Doctor of Optometry degree from SUNY College of Optometry. She is licensed in New York State, certified to prescribe oral therapeutic medications, and has advanced training in specialty contact lenses and myopia management. She is a member of the New York State Optometric Association.

Her clinical interests include dry eye and ocular surface disease, meibomian gland dysfunction, digital eye strain, and contact lens intolerance, along with specialty lenses such as sclerals, multifocals, and orthokeratology. She also diagnoses and helps manage a wide range of ocular conditions, including keratoconus, glaucoma, diabetic eye disease, hypertensive retinopathy, and other systemic conditions that affect the eyes. She sees patients of all ages, including children.

Dr. Latek believes a good eye exam should leave you understanding your own eyes. She takes the time to explain what she finds and builds individualized treatment plans aimed at lasting comfort and clear vision, whether you spend all day in front of a screen or have struggled with chronic dryness for years. She is fluent in Polish and medically proficient in Spanish.

Outside the office, she enjoys reading, cooking and baking, caring for her houseplants, and traveling.
